Anurag Goel is the co-founder and Chairman of Cactus Communications. Since 2002, he has been involved in shaping the organization from a pure-play start-up to a well-respected global communications company with offices in Japan, US, UK, China, South Korea, Singapore, and India. Today, CACTUS is also recognized for its industry-leading people practices and was recognized by Great Places to Work Institute as India’s Best Mid-sized Workplace in 2017. In the early days, Anurag adopted a hands-on role by supervising delivery teams, defining quality standards, and directly managing top performers to establish systems and promote leaders. Today, he focuses on strategy, business development, and grooming leaders to take CACTUS to the next level–while ensuring CACTUS retains its inspiring culture. He also oversees the medical communications arm of Cactus Communications. Before establishing CACTUS, Anurag worked for McKinsey & Co. from 1998 to 2001. Based initially in Amsterdam and then in India, Anurag completed engagements in the areas of corporate finance and strategy practice for companies in diverse industries: logistics, metals and mining, steel, telecommunications, and financial services. Anurag holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the Wharton School of Business and a BAS in Computer Science from the University of Pennsylvania as a graduate of the prestigious Jerome Fisher Dual Degree Program in Management and Technology.
As Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Abhishek brings to CACTUS entrepreneurial vision; a rich, in-depth understanding of customer needs; and strong leadership qualities. During his travels through Asia as an AIESEC consultant, Abhishek came across a number of people who were not entirely comfortable communicating with the English-speaking world. When he helped a Japanese professor edit a research paper, he realized the desideratum for a professional service that edits English documents for non-native English speakers. This proved to be the genesis of Editage. Abhishek has spent considerable time traveling to universities and research institutes across Asia to understand customer needs and build relationships. After setting up CACTUS’ first international office in Japan in 2007, he immersed himself into the Japanese business and culture for 3 years, thereby ensuring a base for CACTUS’ largest market. Since 2012, Abhishek has since been involved in global strategy and new initiatives. He currently drives the academia side of the business through his rich understanding of client expectations. Before establishing CACTUS, Abhishek was actively involved with the Mumbai and Japan chapters of the international non-profit organization AIESEC, where he donned various hats. Abhishek holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from University of Mumbai, India.
Elvira D’souza has close to 15 years of experience in the medical communications industry, 8 of which have been at CACTUS. Her responsibilities include managing a 100+ team who assist pharmaceutical/device companies globally on multiple types of projects including manuscript writing and editing, publication support, regulatory writing, and marketing support documentation across a range of therapeutic areas. Over the last 5 years, Elvira has been involved with various industry organizations (ISMPP, AMWA, DIA). She helped conduct the first BELS examination in India and has also proctored subsequent BELS examinations in India. She has helped develop the Medical Writer Competency Model developed along with other core team members of the Drug Information Association Medical Writing Special Interest Area Community. This model was developed by a team of experts from around the world who employ medical writers.
Gary Groesbeck brings 25+ years of business development and marketing experience to CACTUS from across multiple industries. Gary earned his BS in Business Administration from St. Francis University in Loretto, PA. Prior to joining CACTUS, Gary was Director of Business Development for Thomson Scientific Medical Writing Group for six years, where he helped to build and promote a successful medical writing capability within this global information company. In addition to his business development achievements, for six years Gary was with PIA Ltd., a small boutique medical writing group, where he was instrumental in building the “Astrolabe Message Mapping System." Astrolabe was later acquired by Thomson Scientific as the final jewel in a series of databases designed to provide high-level competitive information to pharmaceutical decision makers.
Maribeth Bogush, MCI, PhD is a Scientific Director at CACTUS Communications. She is responsible for providing strategic scientific direction and oversight for all scientific content and assisting with business development. Maribeth also provides professional training for CACTUS staff worldwide to ensure currency with all professional standards and guidelines regarding medical publication practices. She has 8 years of experience in biomedical research and 15 years of experience in the medical communications industry, including long-term partnerships with diverse small and large pharmaceutical companies to develop and execute pre-, peri-, and post-launch publication, medical education, and promotional activities. Her therapeutic areas of expertise include bleeding disorders, dermatology, gastroenterology, infectious disease, mental health, oncology, rheumatology, and women's health.
Sandeep Kamat, MBBS, CMPP, is a medical doctor by training and has over 8 years of experience in medical writing and editing. As the Associate Vice President, Medical Affairs, at CACTUS, Sandeep is involved in recruitment, on-boarding training, mentoring and on-going training, and quality control. In addition to designing and implementing the stringent selection process at CACTUS, he has developed an intensive training program to help medical and life science post-graduates transition from a clinical or lab environment into a career in medical writing. Sandeep has been a part of the publications team in a global top 10 Pharma company. He has both publications and regulatory writing experience and has worked in several therapeutic areas, including Oncology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Immunology, Hematology, and Hypertension. Sandeep is a member of ISMPP and has been on a panel reviewing CMPP examination questions.
Yashmi has around two decades of expertise in marketing and HR leadership across the publishing and IT industries. She has considerable experience in and understanding of both the people and client sides of businesses. In her current role at CACTUS, Yashmi is responsible for establishing best-in-class programs and practices in the areas of recruitment, performance management, engagement, compensation, benefits, reward, recognition, training and development. She conceptualized the 'We value' program which has helped Cactizens understand, imbibe, and practice the 6 core values of CACTUS. She has helped CACTUS build its own competency model and blended learning, which are used to enhance business and management acumen of leaders at all levels.
After working for a decade in the United States, Nishchay moved to CACTUS where he now applies his experience in working with cloud computing, SAAS applications, infrastructure design, agile project management, and lean startup methodologies. He manages the Software Development, Infrastructure, and Quality Assurance team and is responsible for the overall technological direction of CACTUS. Nishchay has a Master’s of Science degree from the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut, and his key focus areas are Computer Networks and Database Systems.
Having lived in Japan, India, and the UK, Makoto has first-hand knowledge of cross-cultural business differences as well as a real understanding of client needs. Working at the CACTUS head office in India from 2003 to 2005, Makoto played an important role in introducing online marketing and promoting CACTUS’ editorial services among researchers in Japan. After rejoining CACTUS in 2007 as part of its Japan subsidiary, he has taken over management of the Japan office as well as business development for the publication support, education, transcription, translation, and design services. In 2013, he also took up the role of Vice President of the ScienceTalks executive committee. ScienceTalks is CACTUS’ initiative to build an interactive platform that will enable authors and researchers to informally connect and exchange ideas with each other on a real-time basis. Makoto holds a bachelor’s degree in law from Nihon University, Japan.
Lydia has over a decade of experience in business consulting, company start up, and operations. She has been with CACTUS since 2012 when we began focusing on business from China. She is responsible for the overall operations of the CACTUS China division, meeting sales targets as well as managing the overall finances and administration. Lydia has a strong understanding of the business environment and government policies in China. She also supports the Medical Communications division of CACTUS through her involvement in business development, negotiation, and customer support for pharmaceuticals companies in China. Prior to working with CACTUS, Lydia was a senior consultant and accumulated a wealth of experience in business consulting, accounting, administration, HR, and planning customer-focused strategies.
Shyam Dattani heads the global business development and marketing for the life-sciences and medical communications vertical at Cactus Communications Inc. He has more than a decade of experience and proven track record in market development, enterprise account management and sales leadership. Shyam is responsible for driving strategic business growth through innovative service development, market shaping, international expansion, and client relationship management. Before CACTUS, Shyam was a Director- Business Development with a mid-sized life science service provider, where he conceptualized and led transformative growth initiatives with global pharmaceutical companies. Previously, Shyam has worked with Siemens Limited managing key clients. Shyam is skilled at P&L management and building long term strategic relationships with clients. Shyam is an electronics engineering graduate and holds an MBA from Indian School of Business, Hyderabad.
Asheena Munjal heads Client services for the Medical Communications arm at Cactus Communications. With over 10 years of experience in different healthcare settings and pharmaceutical services, Asheena has managed multi-million dollar portfolios specializing in breaking through and penetrating competitive customer landscapes. After working with a mid-sized life science service provider for over 7 years, Asheena joined CACTUS with a wealth of experience in Consultative Selling, Strategic Account Development and Sales Management in International markets. In 2017, Asheena has been an advisory board member and speaker at the 4th Promotional Review Compliance Conference Midwest by ExL- Chicago. In addition to holding a Master’s degree in Health Studies from Coventry University, Asheena has certifications in General Management and Customer Experience from the Indian Institute of Management and Rutgers University, respectively.
